I FIRST STARTED SHOOTING SHONI WHILE I WORKED ON THE ATL GUIDE PROJECT. NOW I WORK WITH ATL STYLE MAGAZINE. MUCH HAS CHANGED. SHANI HAS CHANGED AS WELL. BUT SHE ONLY GETS BETTER
TWLIGHT ZONE
I GREW UP WHEN BLACK & WHITE TELEVISIONS WERE STILL COMMON. IN 2000, I WROTE A PAPER ON COLOR THEORY. IN IT I ARGUED THAT WE (IMAGE MAKERS IN GENERAL AND PHOTOGRAPHERS IN PARTICULAR) ARE INFLUENCED BY THE DOMINATE COLORS OF OUR FORMATIVE YEARS. DURING THE LATE 70'S (MY TEEN YEARS WHEN I WATCHED A LOT OF TELEVISION) TECHNICOLOR AND BLACK & WHITE TELEVISON SERIES WERE THE NORM. HENCE, MY PRECEPTORS WERE TUNED BY SUCH TELEVISED MEMORIES. EARLY IN MY PHOTOGRAPHY, I COULD SEE AND THINK IN BLACK & WHITE AND SOFT HUES BETTER THAN I COULD IN THE MORE SATURATED COLORS OF TODAY. MY WORK REFLECTED THAT.
